- Triggering a Challenge: Right after a call you disagree with, press Down on the D-Pad. Timing is everything—you have roughly two seconds to act.
- The Review: Once triggered, a real-time graphic pops up on the stadium videoboard showing the pitch’s location against a simplified 2D strike zone over home plate.
- Outcome: If the call is overturned, you keep your challenge. If it stands, you lose one.
Rules and Strategic Limits
- Starting Challenges: Each team begins with two challenges per game.
- Retention: Win a challenge, and it’s retained. Lose it, and you’re down a challenge.
- Extra Innings: If you run out of challenges and the game goes to extra innings, you get one extra challenge per extra inning. This can reset in later extra innings if you’re still out of challenges.
- Who Can Challenge: Only the batter, pitcher, or catcher can call a challenge. Managers and dugout personnel cannot initiate reviews.
Where the ABS System Works
Mode Availability Why it’s active or not Offline Modes Active Includes Franchise, Road to the Show (RTTS), and Exhibition. Challenges matter here. Online / DD Inactive Diamond Dynasty and Head-to-Head (H2H) use “Perfect” umpire accuracy. No challenges needed. Settings and Customization
You can turn ABS on or off anytime, even mid-game:
- Go to Settings
- Select General
- Open Rules
- Toggle ABS Challenge System
With this system, beginners can start using challenges smartly, saving them for high-leverage moments like late-inning strikeouts or critical bases-loaded pitches. Master the timing, know your limits, and ABS can give your offline games a real competitive edge.
